Facts

Flag

Flag

Your children can learn about Switzerland's flag. This flag has a white cross taken from Canton Schwyz's coat of arms, one of the three founding members of the Swiss confederation.

Lindt Chocolates

Lindt Chocolates

The Lindy company dates back to 1879, where Rodolphe Lindt made better melting chocolate than others on the market. We received four different chocolates: milk, dark, fudge swirl, and I think the orange is orange filled.

Swiss Cowbell

Swiss Cowbell

Cattle in Switzerland wear cowbells for most of their lives unless they change owners. This bell doesn't really ring, but it makes for a pretty ornament.

St. Bernard Dog

This little guy is too cute but I wish they had put it in a plastic bag to protect it from the packing material dust. St. Bernard dogs are a working breed that helps rescue people from avalanches.

Flower Smell

Flower Smell

Each box contains an air freshener that has a scent from another country. The flower smell in this box is for Switzerland's natural flower, the Edelweiss. This grows throughout the Alps.

Activities

Your box will contain a passport, where you can put your stickers from each country you “visit.”

Postcard

postcard

This postcard is of Zermatt, which is a town at the foot of the Matterhorn Mountain.

Swiss Recipes

Swiss Recipes

Up & Away included four different recipes. I just had chicken cordon blue for Christmas. I am going to try this recipe and see how it compares to the one I had.

  • Rosti Potato Pancakes
  • Chicken Cordon Bleu
  • Chocolate Fondue
  • Hot Chocolate

Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate

Swiss Miss

Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate doesn't have anything to do with Switzerland; it's actually made in Wisconsin. There I a more authentic version in the recipe cards. The snowmen come unassembled in a bag of marshmallows.

Christmas Market Craft Ornaments

Ornaments

Christmas markets are popular in Switzerland, with the most popular occurring in Zurich. There were four ornament projects to do.

Christmas Market Craft Ornaments

These are our finished ornaments. We will put in photos later. We were missing the fur trim on Santa's hat.

Hot Air Balloon Wind Chime

Hot Air Balloon

This craft is for the International Hot Air Balloon Festival, which is in Château-d'Oex, in January. It's a 9-day festival that has a night show, balloon rides, and kids' day.

Hotair balloon

I love this hot air balloon. I need to find my window suction cup to hang things in my window.

Heidi Novel

Novel

This novel originated in 1881 by author Johanna Spyri. I haven't read this book before, so I look forward to reading it with my boys.

Memory Card Game

Memory Card Game

I loved playing memory as a child. Each picture card has a coordinating description. You match the picture with the description and try to get the most matches to win the game.

Swiss Math Brain Teaser

I see these on Facebook all the time. Can you sold these brain teasers?

crayons

There was also a box of crayons in the box.

Final Thought: This is a fun experience for the whole family. My oldest loved the balloon craft while my youngest liked the ornaments. Use the code CRATE10 to save 10% on your 1st box.
