The Farmer's Dog Fresh Dog Food April 2019 Review

The Farmer's Dog is a fresh pet food subscription for dogs. Subscription plans start at less than $3.00 a day for small dogs. When you sign up, you fill out a profile about your dog. When you fill out your profile, you will list your dog's age, bread(s), health issues, activity level, and the type of food your dog eats. You can choose between beef, pork, and turkey.  You can choose one recipe or a combination of recipes. My Farmer's Dog review is for my dog Buddy. He is a 3-year-old Beagle/Golden Retriever mix. The first two weeks of a subscription is a trial and you can get it for 50% off. My box was $51.74 and will be $103.48 regular price every two weeks. Your subscription will depend on the size and details of your dog.

First Look

The Farmer's Dog Fresh Dog Food April 2019 Review

The paperwork was packaged in a to-go container. I used the to-go container to hold the opening food packages in the refrigerator.

The Famer's Dog included information on how to transition your dog from dry food to fresh food. The rest of the information on the cards talks about the subscription.

Schedule:

  • Days 1 & 2 75% Old Food, 25% Farmer's Food.
  • 3 & 4 50% Old Food, 50% Farmer's Food

The front side of the paper gives nutritional information for the three types of food.

The other side of the paper gives specialized instructions on how to feed your dog. For Buddy, he eats a half a pack per day, with a total calorie count of 532.

My box came with a very nice insulated cooler bag. You can put your dog food in here if you are going to be gone, or use it to keep groceries frozen. I am keeping this in my car.

I received 7 packages of food, enough for two weeks. All the food is made to meet the nutritional levels from the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles.

The box was well insulated and came with dry ice.  All the food was frozen when I received it.

Turkey & Parsnip Recipe. This recipe contains turkey, parsnips, chickpeas, carrot, broccoli, spinach, fish oil, and a nutrient blend. I like how with fresh food, you can see the real ingredients in each pack. You can keep the meals frozen and then thaw overnight before feeding to your dog. The Turkey recipe has 1062 kcal per pack and has a min crude protein of 9%, min crude fat of 5% min, 1.5% max crude fiber.

Pork & Sweet Potato Recipe

Pork & Sweet Potato Recipe The pork recipe contains pork, sweet potato, potato, pork liver, green beans, cauliflower, fish oil, and a nutrient blend. The Pork recipe has 1062 kcal per pack and has a min crude protein of 11%, min crude fat of 7% min, 1% max crude fiber. Buddy hasn't had pork before, so I didn't know if he would like it. Buddy loved the pork and spoiler alert, he loved the entire subscription.

Beef & Lentil

Beef & Lentil The beef recipe contains beef, lentils, sweet potato, beef liver, carrot, kale, sunflower seeds, fish oil, and the nutrient blend. I knew Buddy would love the beef, as he is always trying to grab our steak. I started Buddy on the beef blend first. Read on to read Buddy's take.

I didn't take a picture of every bowl of food, but this is an example of the food. While it may not look tasty to humans, Buddy loved it!

Buddy transitioned easily to the food and he comes right up to me as soon as he sees the food.

Buddy generally grazes throughout the day on his dry dog food but he gobbles up his Famer's Dog food as soon as I sit it out.

Final Thought: Buddy is such a fan of The Farmer's Dog food. I love feeding my dog fresh and healthy food. Buddy can e a bit lazy, so I try to give him healthy food, so he doesn't gain too much. I do wish the food bags were resealable, so it makes it a bit less messy between feedings. If you want to try a healthy fresh dog food for your pet, use this link to save 50% on your 1st box.
