Home Chef December 2016 Review

Home Chef December 2016 Review

Home Chef is a home meal subscription that is $9.95/person per meal.  One of the really unique features of Home Chef is their huge menu.  Each week there is over 10 meals to choose from.  You can pick your regular meals and then add-on shakes and breakfast items.  If you have read my reviews, you know I am a really picky eater, though I didn't have any problem selecting my meals for review.  Home Chef can also accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets.

When you sign up, you fill out a short profile and Home Chef will give you recommendations, although you can select any meal you wish.  Shipping is free for orders over $40.00 and you can skip any week you want.  You can also select the day your box is delivered (Tues-Fri).

The Details:

Cost: $9.95/person.  You can choose between 2 or 4 meals per box.

Coupon: Use this link to get $30.00 off your 1st box.

What's in the box?  Each box comes with your selected meals, all packaged so your food stays fresh.

Note: We ordered the two plate box, so each meal made two meals.  There is so much food, there is always enough to share with our two small children.  If you have older kids (mine are 4 and 7), you probably want the 4 plate box.  One note, recently my 4 year old has been extra picky, so typically we share our meals with just our 7 year old.

First Look

The recipe cards are always placed on top and the food ins packaged in insulated packaging.

Cape Town Steak with Sweety Drop Relish with half-mashed peas and potatoes I consistently always pick the steak and potatoes, but this recipe had a nice twist. The dish is served with a peri peri sauce that adds a sweet and hot sauce to the dish.  The peas are made with oregano and they complement the steak and potatoes.

The food always arrives fresh!

This was a great dish.  Note: these plates are huge, so it makes the food look smaller.  Home Chef has the biggest portions of any subscription box I have reviewed.  The steak and potatoes were great together. The sauce was a great addition to this traditional dish.  I am personally not a huge fan of peas, but my husband loved them.

The chicken breasts were thick and contained little fat.  Home Chef ships fresh ingredients, but if for any reason your ingredients aren't fresh, they will make it right.

Chicken can be dry but this was juicy and the sauce really added to the flavor.  I loved the read peppers and the potatoes really made me feel full.

There was so much food for this meal.  We even had potatoes left over.

Final Thought: This was another great week of food.  There was enough food for my husband, 7 year old and I.  My 4 year old only eats about 5 things, so he generally eats other things.  I love Home Chef, because the recipes are unique, but still “normal” enough for me and my picky tastes.  If you want to try Home Chef, use this link to save $30.00 on your 1st box.
