Blue Apron (October 28th meal selection) Review

Blue Apron October 21st meal selection review.

Hi all!  It’s Kristi doing another guest review, and this time I’m doing another meal subscription box review.  I love to cook, and have now tried several Blue Apron boxes.  I’m super excited to try some more fancy recipes this week!

Blue Apron is a meal subscription box that sends you delicious recipes and all the ingredients you need to make the dishes.  There are two plans, a two-person plan and a family plan.  The two-person plan is $59.94/box or 9.99 per serving.  The two-person box includes two plates of three different meals (six services).  The family box is $69.92/box for two four-person meals, (eight services) or $8.74/serving.

When you sign up, you check all the kinds of food you like.   Each week, you will be sent meals based on your preferences.  Shipping is free and you can skip any week or cancel any time.

First peek!

A little sadness when opening the stuff, as this was smooshed and unusable, but an email to Blue Apron resulted in a very quick response and a credit for the trouble.  I popped over to Kroger and got a new one.

First up was Sicilian Style Rigatoni Pasta.

Yum!  This is the first time my kids would eat anything of the Blue Apron meals.  LOL.  I really liked this.  It was packed full of veggies and hearty wheat pasta.  I loved that I tried a new vegetable of green cauliflower.  I would cook this again!

Next up, Smoked Mozzarella and Cabbage Pizza.

This was really good too.  My husband said, “I like these meals.  Who would think to put cabbage on a pizza?!”  The picture on the left shows what was left after two plates, plus two small pieces for the kids were used.  We had leftovers of this one for once 🙂  My kids ate the crust, but not the cabbage.  Progress!

Finally, Roasted Acorn Squash.

This is an example of how I prepare/cut stuff to save on dishes.  It works for me, but may not for everyone.  Normally, I use a cutting board, but it was dirty.

Almost there!

Apparently, I forgot to take a picture of the final product.  But, something I have neglected to show are the nutrition guides that are in each knick knack bag.  I like this, so I can count my calories!  Most meals are about 700-ish calories per plate.  This recipe was good too.  I loved the fall-ness of it and we got to try couscous.

Final Thought:  I really liked all the recipes….again! I also love that the recipes have a fall theme!  Once again, it is nice that everything is prepackaged with the right amounts and have detailed instructions.  I felt like I was making gourmet meals!  A few tips-ALWAYS HAVE OLIVE OIL!  Most all recipes call for some olive oil, and that’s the only thing not included.  KEEP THE GARLIC CLOVE!  Usually, more than one recipe calls for it.  I always manage to throw it away, then need it.  The only downside is my kids aren't super excited about the selection/we’d have to up to a four person box if they would.  If you have a busy schedule and love to cook, this would be a great option to try!  After you are a subscriber you can skip a week any time. ***There are limitations on the choices you can make….some combinations aren't allowed***  This week ended up meatless, but that was ok. There are usually enough things I like to get a combination of three things that are orderable together.  Use this link to get 3 Free Meals with your subscription.
