Doodle Crate ships in a blue box and ships by Priority Mail.

Screen Printing

This month, the project is Screen Printing.

089

Doodle Crate comes with a little instruction magazine for this month's project.  The first pages explains the craft and includes a list of all the supplies in the box.

090

Before starting the main screen printing project, Doodle Crate guides you through a practice project.  Using the chipboard included in the box, you screen print a sample design.

091

Once you master the practice design, it's time to do the main project.  You place the dried chipboard in the backpack and then screen print your desired designs.

The Supplies

The main tools are a screen, ink, scoop and squeegee.  There was also a piece of chipboard, but somehow I left it out of the picture.

You can use your own design, or use one of the stencils Doodle Crate sent.

backpack

The backpack you screen print is a navy canvas bag with a drawstring top.

Practice

002

Screen printing is super easy.  You apply a stencil on the front, then put a line of ink on the top of the inside of the screen, and use the squeegee to spread the ink down.

I choose the cherries for my backpack. i had to let the backpack dry between applications, so I wouldn't spread the ink around.

This is the finished project!  It turned out so well.

Final Thought: This month's project was so much fun! I loved screen printing and I want to try this on other projects.  There was more than enough ink for more projects.  I am going to check out the Target Dollar spot and let my children make some screen printed bags.  If you want to try Doodle Crate or any of the Kiwi Crate brands, use this link with my exclusive code MOM50.
