I was sent the Fire and Nature boxes for review, along with the Intro booklet.

I was sent the Intro Booklet to see a glimpse of what is in the first box. The booklet is several pages long, so I took pictures of some of the highlights. There is an overview of the program and subscription the booklet.

The subscription is designed to be a year-long subscription because your child will be a new theme each month.

The intro box will contain a backpack, an emergency contact tag, a metal ring for the resource cards, paracord and carabiner.

There were two pages of what to pack in your backpack. There were additional pages about how to pack a backpack and a family challenge to pack a backpack using the information in the book.

Children can learn morse code to communicate. My boys learned about morse code in scout camp. It's a fun activity to do with your kids.

There is a fun DIY on how to make a paracord key chain from the paracord in the box. There was also a puzzle in the booklet and information about The Andes.

The fire box comes in the October box. This box teaches children fire safety and how to build a proper fire, then put it out.

There is always a post card in the box to send to encourage someone about the topic of the box. The was a card in the box to teach kids about making a fire escape plan. Kids are encouraged to draw a map of their house and make an escape plan.

The inside of the booklet has a picture of everything in the box.

UST Heritage Campfire Starting Kit This kit includes all the basic pieces you need to make a fire, even in wet conditions.

This kit includes the following:

  • 12 cotton-based tinder pieces – 3 minutes of burn time
  • 9 kindling logs – 1 per fire
  • Resource cards
  • Lightweight fire striker – creates sparks and the serrated edge can create fire tinder.

The resource cards give detailed information about how to build a fire. There are details about each step in building a fire. These go on the metal loop in the Intro box.

Pocket Bellow This is 3.6 inches and expands to 19 inches. You expand this and can use it to blow oxygen to the heart of the fire.

The booklet explains the three things fires need: air, wind, and sparks. There is also an explanation for uses of fire, and how much tinder, kindling, and fuel you need for a fire. The book shows different ways to make a fire and there are colorful diagrams and descriptions of each fire.

The first activity is to use the firestarter in the box. While this is a box for children, these activities should only be used with an adult.

DIY Fire Starter and Fire Extinguisher The wax discs and cotton are used to make a fire starter. There are only 6 steps and then you can make your own fire extinguisher.

The fire box was filled with all the information and products needed to make a real fire. The booklet included proper safety tips to children know how to be careful around fire.

Nature Box

 

The nature box comes in the July box. This box teaches children about nature, bee stings, snack bites and ecology.

The inside of the booklet has a picture of everything in the box.

Learn & Live Bite & Sting Kit This kit comes with a waterproof case, sting pump, tourniquet, pads, and reference cards. The reference cards explain how to identify different kinds of snakes, ways to prevent and treat snakes bites, ways to identify spiders and bees, then how to treat them.

The first activity is to make a bracelet, leaf shoe and nature art from things in your backyard.

The book explains how to use the pump to remove the poison from snake bites.

tweezers

The trail tweezers in the box are for your kit to remove ticks. The book gives a tutorial on how to use them to properly remove ticks.

10X Magnifying Glass

10X Magnifying Glass This magnifying glass folds out to look at insects and plants close up. My boys love playing with magnifying glasses.

frisbee

For some fun, there is a fold-out frisbee that fits in this little pouch. Your child can enjoy the outdoors with some fun.

wildflowers

This is a packet of wildfire seeds that can be mailed. Mail this to a friend to plant in their yard.

The nature box was very educational and included a great kit for bee stings and snake bites.

Final Thought: Think Outside Boxes is a great subscription for children who love the outdoors. The fire and nature boxes were both contain information to teach and products to use for outdoor fun. I was really impressed with both boxes. This would make a fantastic holiday gift for children.
