Home Chef August 2016 Review + $30.00 Coupon
Disclosure: This post contains referral links.
Home Chef is a home meal subscription that is $9.95/person per meal. One of the really unique features of Home Chef is their huge menu. Each week there is over 10 meals to choose from. You can pick your regular meals and then add-on shakes and breakfast items. If you have read my reviews, you know I am a really picky eater, though I didn’t have any problem selecting my meals for review. Home Chef can also accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets.
When you sign up, you fill out a short profile and Home Chef will give you recommendations, although you can select any meal you wish. Shipping is free for orders over $40.00 and you can skip any week you want. You can also select the day your box is delivered (Tues-Fri).
Cost: $9.95/person. You can choose between 2 or 4 meals per box.
What’s in the box? Each box comes with your selected meals, all packaged so your food stays fresh.
Note: We ordered the two plate box, so each meal made two meals. There is so much food, there is always enough to share with our two small children. If you have older kids (mine are 3 and 7), you probably want the 4 plate box.
Home Chef ships in a large box that is well insulated.
All the recipe cards are on top of the box. The front of the recipe card lists how long it takes to prepare, how hard the recipe is and how quickly you should make the meal. The back of the information card has detailed instructions and a list of all the ingredients you need. I have never had problems following Home Chef instructions.
It’s 90 plus degrees outside, but the box was packed with ice packs, so everything was not only cold, but ice cold!
Turkey Chili with cheddar cheese and avocado
My whole family loved chili, even my little 4 year old. The ingredients were fresh and ready to be cooked.
The finished dish was outstanding. This had a tomato base, which was different than my typical chili. This is made with onions, turkey, cheese, kidney beans, tomatoes and seasoning. The recipe technically made two servings of chili, but it served all four of us. I didn’t show the avocado in the picture, but my husband loved it with his chili. This is a recipe to save to make again.
Sherry Wine Demi-Glace Flat Iron Steak with whipped potatoes and balsamic Brussels sprouts
We have had this meal before, so I jumped at the chance to eat it again. This meal is the only way I like Brussels Sprouts.
These are the finished meals. The potatoes go great with steak. The Brussels sprouts were fabulous and not bitter at all! This is my favorite Home Chef recipe I have had.
This is a closer look at the meal. I highly recommended trying this if you get the chance.
Final Thought: Home Chef is my favorite meal subscription box, and I have tried many. The portions are huge, so you really get the value for your money. They also have more “normal” menu selections, so my children don’t complain about dinner. If you want to try Home Chef, use this link to save $30.00 on your 1st box.
