WowBox Kawaii and Beauty April 2016 Review

WowBox Kawaii and Beauty April 2016 Review

Hi everyone!  It’s Kristi doing a guest review this month!  I love snacks, and loved the last time I reviewed the WOWBOX Classic box, so I was excited to try out the WOWBOX Kawaii and Beauty Large box this month!  I usually do the Classic box, so this is new for me 🙂

WOWBOX is a Japanese candy subscription starting at $14.99/month. They have three different themes of boxes: Original Fun & Tasty, Kawaii & Beauty, and The Classic. Once you pick your theme, you choose the size of your box (small, medium and large).  Small boxes are $14.99, medium boxes are $24.99 and large boxes are $34.99.

Original Fun & Tasty boxes are filled with wacky treats and new candies.  Kawaii & Beauty boxes are filled with low-calorie treats that are good for you body and tasty too.  Occasionally, there are beauty items in the box. The Classic is filled with items that are essential Okashi in Japan.   These snacks have been popular for decades.  For all themes, DIY kits will be in medium and large boxes. I was sent The Kawaii and Beauty box this month.

Just like last time there was this handy info sheet so you know what you are eating before you try it!

The information sheet has all the snacks in the box.  There is also a code for each item in the box which indicates if it is in the small, medium or large boxes.  Not pictured, there was a nutritional information sheet which gives the full nutritional breakdown for each snack.

Saya Endo (Light Salt):  These are lightly salted, pea-shaped snacks with protein, fiber, and vitamin B1.  At first they tasted kind of bland, but there was a nice little salty taste at the end.  I liked them, my husband LOVED them!

Popcorn and Pikachu Snack (NEW!)

:  This is a sweet and savory popcorn treat that mixes butter soy sauce flavor with caramel.  It works!  The Pikachu-shaped treats were cute and the flavors were yummy.  My kids are going to get a kick out of this treat!

DSC_0620

Sakura Cola (NEW!):  This cola uses cherry blossom extract to “capture the taste of newly minted spring”.  I can't lie.  I was scared of the description, but it was actually good.  It had a very soft, not offending flavor.

Nyoki Nyoki Kororon (Soda) (DIY Candy and NEW!):  You make your own soda-flavored treats in minutes by following a short video link.  So, I'm not a fan of DIY candy.  I watched the video….you basically make “worms” in a pineapple, melon, and soda flavor.  I'll probably try this with my kids.

Pom Pom Pudding Candy:  This is a lollipop with a sweet pudding taste.  It was a light vanilla pudding flavor. For 23 calories, it was a good treat!

DSC_0623

Marshro:  This is a braided, two-color, marshmallow treat.  It tastes just like a marshmallow, just a more fun way to eat it!

DSC_0624

Luxury Gummy Kouchi No Yuzu:  An “extravagant gummy pack” in the citrus taste of yuzu with a jelly center. They didn't smell great, and I could do without the powdery stuff on them, but once you bit into it, it was pretty yummy.  It has a citrus/lemon taste that is just enough.

Pokémon Baby Star Ramen (Takoyaki) (NEW!):  Well, I read before tasting, so we will see!  This is a package of takoyaki, which is octopus in a fried, ball-shaped bread ramen treat.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Nice and salty with a little kick at the end.

Hello Kitty Strawberry Pretzels:  This strawberry-flavored pretzel snack was a hit!  The strawberry taste is light and creamy.  My favorite thing in the box so far!

DSC_0627

Sanrio Fruit Jerry (NEW!):  These are soft, apple-flavored jelly treats.  They are each individually wrapped.  So, taste-wise, it was a good sour apple flavor.  The texture, however, was a bit slimy for my liking.

Ippon Manzoku Bar Cereal White:  With four types of fruit zest, this white chocolate coated cereal bar was amazing!  Crunchy and sweet!

DSC_0629

Fuwarinks (Peach Rose) (NEW!):  This candy combines rose aroma with a sweet peach taste.  The rose taste just isn't for me.  It's too strong.  The peach, when it came through, was very good.

Mumin XYLITOL Gum (Berry):  Pretty self-explanatory.  Berry-flavored gum.  Crispy coating and a soft inside.  I felt like it had a rose or something bitter taste in it.  Was not my favorite.

DSC_0631

Fue Ramune (Matcha) (NEW!):  This celebrates the classic green tea flavor in a crunchy ring.  It was ok….

Choco Banana, Gudetama Choco, Strawberry Shortcake Choco:  Chocolate covered treats were a good way to end they box.  Nice, small morsels of goodness.

Final Thoughts: Although I like healthier options, quite a few things missed the mark for me in this box.  My favorites were the cereal bar, and strawberry pretzels.  I think I was about 50/50 on liking everything..  I much prefer the Classic Box.  You can check out WOWBOX with this link and use the code S-J5Y1ET4F to save 10% Offer expires May 31st.
