GlobeIn April 2016 Review

GlobeIn April 2016 Review

GlobeIn theme for April is “Spring Clean”.  Our mission this month is to get you geared up (literally) for the big spring clean, and maybe  even…excited for it? For starters, let’s do some re-framing. Forget tedious chore and think sanctified ritual—you certainly wouldn’t be alone in doing so.Boxes are $40.00 month to month and filled with handmade items from all over the world.  I love the quality of the items in my GlobeIn boxes.  You also find out about where each item comes from and who made it. You can save $10.00 on your first box of a three-month subscription, just use the coupon WELCOME.

GlobeIn has already started to add great features to their boxes and more are rolling out soon.  Here is a complete list!

  • Choose your Artisan Box theme (already implemented)
  • Skip a month at any time (already implemented)
  • Set your Artisan Box preferences in your Subscription Settings (already implemented)
  • Choose your basket color (coming soon!)
  • Opt-in to receive a different item instead of a basket (already implemented!)
  • Customize the color and design of your Artisan Box products (coming soon!)

GlobeIn has also has a Benefit Basket.   The Benefit Basket contains one crafted good from a remarkable, remote artisan, all in a colorful, handwoven basket from their weaving collective in Oaxaca, Mexico.  You will also get story of the artisan, their community, and how you are making an impact on their lives.  The Benefit Basket is $19.95/month or $56.95 for 3 months, but you can get $7.00 off your 1 box of a 3 month subscription with the code TRYBENEFIT

GlobeIn Box

GlobeIn shipped in a big brown box.  The quote on the side read “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful” – William Morris.

GlobeIn packing

Everything was packed very well.

information book

The information book has detailed information about everything in the box.

Hanging Wall Organizer

Hanging Wall Organizer, Peru $30.00 In the village Wanchaq, disabled residents struggle to make a living.  ASWAN came to the village and is helping people with jobs, education and social integration.  Freddy Flores makes these people wall organizers by sewing with one hand and moves the petal with the other.

This is a close up view at the different textiles used in the organizer.  I love the different colors.

organizer folds flat

The organizer folds flat, so you could take this with you on a trip.   I think I am going t use this in my craft closet to organize my children's supplies.

These are all handmade through the Tookie knitting co-op and each artist signs their name to back.

Fair Trade Surface Cleaner

Fair Trade Surface Cleaner, Ghana/India $5.00 The perfect addition to the scrubbers was this eco-friendly cleanser.  This is hypoallergenic, biodegradable and made with palm & coconut oils.  All the palm and coconut oils come from small scale farming alliance in Ghana and India.
Kitchen Towel

Kitchen Towel, Turkey $12.00  This is just like the body towel we received in January, only smaller.  This is super absorbent towel was made in Buldan through the Atlas group.  Hatice is one of the few women that can use the weaving machine and make the fringes.

Upcycled Container, Cambodia $10.00 Instead of the beautiful woven basket normally in baskets. I received a great upcycled container from Cambodia. Note: some subscribers received the woven baskets.  This is like the large upcycled I received in another GlobeIn box. You can use this container for cleaning supplies, makeup, or again, take it to store you items in while traveling.  If you have noticed a travel them in my review, it's because I just got back from vacation and really miss it!

Final Thought: The total value of the box was $67.00.  I really loved this box, probably because I have been doing some serious spring cleaning myself.  I spent a good deal of the weekend purging things that I no longer need, so this box came at a great time.  You can save $10.00 on your first box of a three-month subscription, just use the coupon WELCOME.
