Home Chef January 19, 2016 Review

Home Chef January 19, 2016 Review

Home Chef is a home meal subscription that is $9.95/person per meal.  One of the really unique features of Home Chef is their huge menu.  Each week there is over 10 meals to choose from.  You can pick your regular meals and then add-on shakes and breakfast items.  If you have read my reviews, you know I am a really picky eater, though I didn't have any problem selecting my meals for review.  Home Chef can also accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets.

When you sign up, you fill out a short profile and Home Chef will give you recommendations, although you can select any meal you wish.  Shipping is free for orders over $40.00 and you can skip any week you want.  You can also select the day your box is delivered (Tues-Fri).

The Details:

Cost: $9.95/person.  You can choose between 2 or 4 meals per box.

Coupon: Use this link to get $30.00 off your 1st box.

What's in the box?  Each box comes with your selected meals, all packaged so your food stays fresh.

Note: We ordered the two plate box, so each meal made two meals.  There is so much food, there is always enough to share with our two small children.  If you have older kids (mine are 3 and 6), you probably want the 4 plate box.

Home Chef ships by Fed Ex and ships in a big box.

048

The box ships insulated and is packed with several ice packs, so your food stays fresh.

The front of the recipe card lists how long it takes to prepare, how hard the recipe is and how quickly you should make the meal.

050

The back of the information card has detailed instructions and a list of all the ingredients you need.  The only ingredient I have ever had to have is olive oil.  The instructions are super easy to follow and I have need had a problem with them.

044

Steak au Poive with Mashed Cauliflower Gratin and Green Beans  This meal takes 45 minutes to prepare, is an intermediate recipe and best cooked in 6 days.  Due to the peppercorns, this has a medium spice.

Anytime steak is on the Home Chef menu, I select it.  This whole meal looked tasty and something even my kids would eat.

001

This is plate one of two.

We always get the two plate box, but there is enough for all four of us.  My kids loved the gratin, mainly because I didn't tell them what it really was.  The steak turned out great and I loved the sauce.  I ended up only using a little peppercorns, because my family doesn't love spices (except me).

Chipotle Chicken with Cheddar Buttermilk Dumplings with Stewed Carrots and Peas

Chipotle Chicken with Cheddar Buttermilk Dumplings with Stewed Carrots and Peas  This meal takes 40 minutes to prepare, is an intermediate recipe and best cooked in 5 days.  I must admit, I was a bit intimidated by the dumplings, but I was up for the challenge.

041

This is the entire meal.

Like the steak, I only used a little spice, which worked out great.  The dumplings were surprisingly easy to make and turned out so good.  My whole family loved this meal.

Calzone with Broccoli, Red Peppers, and Mushrooms with Marinara Dipping Sauce

Calzone with Broccoli, Red Peppers, and Mushrooms with Marinara Dipping Sauce This meal takes 50 minutes to prepare, is an expert recipe and best cooked in 7 days. I got brave and decided to tackle and expert recipe!  This really looked too good to pass up.

042

This is one of two calzones

This took some time to prepare, but the taste was worth it.  My husband helped make the dough, and I finished the rest.

047

These calzones were absolutely HUGE.  My kids split half of one calzone and my husband and I shared the rest.  Everyone was stuffed!

Final Thought: It's no secret I love this box.  I don't consider myself a great cook, but I feel like one with this box.  Everything ships to me, so there is no planning or trips to store.  This is a great box for times you don't know what to cook or really want to eat out.  We eat out far less often, now that we have Home Chef.  If you want to try Home Chef, use this link to save $30.00 on your 1st box.
