I love Sketchbox's box.  There is a beautiful print on the lid and the logo looks like it was “sketched” on.  The box is very cute and appropriate for an art subscription.

First Look

064

There wasn't a regular information card.  There was a letter enclosed that explained everything in the box and a bit about the box.

015

All the art supplies were packaged together and wrapped with a bow.

060

The art print is by Morgan Ashley from San Francisco.  She used all the supplies in this month's box, to create the print.  I like the print and think is edgy.  I am going to hang it in my office.

061

There was a SketchBox sticker included in the box.

048

Tombow Dual Brush Pen (3 Qty) $5.36 each.  There were three Tombow Watercolor Markers.  The markers have a fine point tip and a flexible brush tip.

This is a look at the Tombow markers.

The following colors were in the box:

  1. Color 228: (top).  The top photo shows how each end writes and the color.
  2. Color 027 (bottom left)  This is a medium brown shade
  3. Color N57 (bottom right)  This is a dark grey color.

054

Sakura Micron 03 Ink Pen: $5.55 each These pens have a 03 size.  I love using pens like this for journaling or scrapbooking.  These pens can be used to outline your art.

This is a sample of how the Sakura pens write.

057

Princeton Art & Brush Co Shader $4.79 and round $3.59:  Two Princeton Paint brushes were included in the box.  There was a shader brush and a precision round brush.

058

This is a close up of the brushes.  They are nicely made and can be used with various types of paint.

Final Thought: This box had a total value of $35.59.  The cost of the box is $25.00, so I think the value of this box was pretty great.  I am not an artist, but I thought there was a nice variety of supplies.  There were 7 different tools, plus a beautiful, edgy print.  SketchBox is a nice box for artists or people who love to be creative.  Each month is a new box of goodies to use to be artistic.  You can try SketchBox with this link and the code DONTGO to save 10% on your first box.

Hello, I hope you are doing well. Great review. I get the Sakura Micro Ink pens at Michael’s for $3.49 to $3.99 each. Have a great day!!!

Are your prices US or Canadian? US List price for Tombow dual brush watercolors are $3.19ea and Micron pens List at $2.89 ea, the prices you list for the paint brushes are what Dick Blick charges for 4 of each brush. So the value od this box is only around $18. That’s just not good enough to sway me. If you are Canadian you are getting a slightly better value, until you figure in the $10 they charge you.

They are all US prices. I linked to each place where I got my prices. I used Amazon to get every price, except the Princeton paint brushes. I generally use Amazon or the Manufacture’s website to get prices.

You definitely overpriced this box, just look at what they give you, it’s definitely definitely not worth $25

I included links for where I found prices for the items. I always look up products online to price items.

    Hello,

Speaking from an artist’s perspective I have no idea why anyone would pay so much for art products you probably wont even use. I would be disappointed if I got these products for $25. I could just go to hobby lobby or michaels and buy better quality products that I actually would use…. I get the whole surprise factor, trying new products, and excitement, but… 2 cheap paint brushes (and I can tell from looking at them that they’re poor quality,) 3 markers, and 2 pens just doesn’t cut it. Thank you for the review! It was great! Really broke everything down! I just am not a fan of this box. Seems like a waste.

I can not get over the prices of the stuff in this box! I am an artist and I also know a lot of artists and none of them would buy a monthly box of pre-selected stuff like this…all of it is available elsewhere cheaper, because most if it is junk! These brushes are very cheap and do not last! These are the type you would get in the craft use in the big box stores! As an artist, and I know my friends feel the same, we like to pick out our own supplies and not get taken advantage of like this! Don’t waist your money on this one! And why would a sticker that advertises themselves be necessary and another persons art work?!!! Sorry, but this one is just a waist!

  8. Natalie Wright, December 4, 2016:

I got a 3 month Sketchbox subscription for my teen daughters. I do NOT recommend it. First, the products included are NEVER more than markers and total value retail never is more than about $10-15. The products have NEVER been wrapped and ties with a bow as this reviewer said hers arrived. It’s always just some markers thrown into a box. And WORST, they set my account to auto renew so I got charged for another 3-month sub I did not want. STAY AWAY from this service!
