This month, RawSpiceBar is headed to Tehran, Iran in celebration of Nowruz, the Persian New Year.

029

RawSpriceBar included an information about Nowruz.  Nowuz occurs on the vernal equinox and is about rebirth, renewal and fertility.  The menu this month features braised lamb shanks & advieh, saffron rice and mast-o-khiar.

028

Advieh Khoresht This spice is made with organic rose petals, cinnamon, green cardamom, angelica, Persian lime powder, coriander, cumin and black peppercorns.  This spice is used to make Braised lamb shank with Advieh.  I have never made lamb, but I love to eat it.  I might try to get my husband to help me make lamb this weekend.

This what the spice looks like.

027

Saffron Threads: I have never seen saffron threads before, so I was interested to see what they looked like.  There was only a small amount in the bag, but you only need a small amount for the recipe.  This is used to make Sabzi Polow with Dill & Saffron.  This dish is a rice dish, with fava beans, yogurt, dill and garlic.  This sounds really good and perfect to compliment the lamb.

003

These are the saffron threads.  It is a very beautiful spice.

026

Mast-O-Kliar Herbs:  These herbs are made with mint, dill, organic rose petals, and black peppercorns.  The herbs are made for the Mast-O-Khiar with rose & mint.  Mast-O-Khiar is made with cucumbers, yogurt, garlic and the herbs.  You mix everything together and you can add some walnuts or cranberries for added flavor.  This is served alongside the lamb and rice.

032

All three spices and herbs have a ziplock seal, so you can use them and seal them up again.

Final Thought: I really loved the interesting recipes this much.  The Mast-O-Kliar isn't much my taste, but I know my husband and boys will probably like it.  I love lamb and I am excited to try  the Advieh Khoresht. It's really amazing RawSpiceBar can combine recipes and spices for only $6.00/month.  This is a great subscription and if you love trying new food, check out RawSpiceBar here.
