BeanGenius December 2014 Review – Coffee Subscription Box

BeanGenius is a subscription box for people who love good coffee. For $22.00/month, you will get a customized bag of coffee. Each month, you will get a 12 oz bag of freshly roasted coffee. The coffee is specifically selected based on your personal preferences. When you sign up for a subscription, you fill out a questionnaire about your taste preferences. One unique feature of BeanGenius, is they ship your coffee within a day of roasting. In terms of quality, they only send coffee that scores over an 85 on a 100 point scale. Many of their bags coffee score over a 90, this means you will only get the best coffee.

Ethiopia Sidamo Ardi' $20.44 This coffee was selected based on my answers to the questionnaire. This coffee has a fantastic aroma. I personally don't drink coffee, but I love the smell of a good cup of coffee. This coffee has a rich smell and I would love to have a candle scented with this.
The Beans: The beans were roasted days before arriving on my doorstep. The coffee was incredibly fresh. This coffee is made with flavors of blueberry, lime and chocolate. The beans come from Ethipoia and are dried on raised beds for three weeks, before being hand selected for distribution.
The Taste: This coffee had a very robust flavor, but it was a bit too bitter for C's taste. It seemed to have more caffeine than other coffee he drinks, which was nice when you need a boost.
Final Thought: BeanGenius sends a gourmet bag of coffee, selected just for you. If you bought the coffee straight from the source, it would be $20.44. The cost of the box is $22.00, which is very reasonable considering the concierge aspect of the subscription. Once you get your first bag, you can give feedback about your bag. BeanGenius uses their algorithms to pick and even better bag the next month. I love subscription boxes that caters to your own personal preferences.
