Girls Can! Crate December 2018 Review

Girls Can! Crate is a subscription box for girls 4-8 to teach them that they can BE and DO anything.  Boxes are $29.95/month and each box is themed around a new fearless woman.

Boxes contain 2-3 STEM/art projects, a 20 page GIRLS CAN! activity book, creative play props, a focus character trait for little ones to practice, a character trading card with a featured character trait for kids to practice, 2-3 practical tips for parents to help foster that trait in their little ones every day and MORE.  If you read my reviews, your know I just have two boys; however, I think it's important to teach boys and girls that anyone can be who they want.  I wanted to do this box with my boys, so they will learn about fearless women and that women can do anything a man can do.

Girls Can! Crate gives 10% off the profits back to non-profits that work to empower women and girls.

First Look

This month, the featured females are the Apache 8 Crew. There is a card that gives grown-ups information about how you can help girls take more risks.

This card gives details about everything in the box and the different projects.

The Gutsy Firefighters book has a story, games, activities and STEM activities.

Girls Can Crate gives information about the Apache 8 Crew.

There are also several fun games and activities to do.

Each box also comes with a button, themed around the box's theme. You could get a ribbon and hang it in your child's room to display all the buttons.

Activity #1: Exploring Fire

The first activity teaches kids about fire and how to keep one going.

The parent lights the three candle. A glass jar covers the first one and once the oxygen leaves, the candle burns out. The second candle is put out with water from pipette.

To put the third candle out, you make a mixture of baking soda, citric acid, and a tablespoon of water.

Once everything is mixed, you hold the bottle up to the candle and the gas puts out the flame.

Activity #2: Create a Fire Whirl

The next activity makes a fire while, which is a whirlwind of fire and ash.

You fill one bottle up with water, attach the connector, then add the other bottle. When you flip the bottle over, the water doesn't flow into the bottom bottle.

For the next part of the experiment, you add a die tablet to the water. When the bottle is turned over, you swirl the water around in the bottle and it was flow easily to the bottom bottle. This shows the fire whirl.

Activity #3: Build a (SAFE!) Campfire

This craft lets kids make their own homemade campfire.

The first step was to tear little pieces of tissue paper to make flames. We ended up using scissors to cut up the little pieces of paper.

The tiny pieces of tissue paper were glued to the clear glass and the brown felt was made into logs.

There is also a battery operated light, to make the tissue paper flicker.

Final Thought: My son had a great time crafting this box and he enjoyed learning about fire safety. This is a fun subscription for girls or boys. If you want to subscribe, use the coupon LAUNCH20 to save 20% off your 1st box.
