Kid Wonder May 2018 Review

The April box was decorated in a medieval.

First Look

The small card is from Scout, who lets kids know about the monthly theme. The book is packed with fun activities, all made around Medieval Times.

Kids can learn about kings, lords, knights, and peasants, along with parts of a castle.

Kids learn where peasant homes were located, what a manor house was and other parts of Medieval life. There were several pages in the book that I didn't photograph.

Activity #1

Dress Like A Knight: Each activity pack comes with an information card about the activity. For this activity, your child will make a rocket backpack and mask.  The project is rated very low messiness, low difficulty, and very little time involved.

The kit comes with a felt mask, mask stickers, knight tunic, decorative stickers and a shield sticker.

The instructions were easy to follow, so my son didn't need any help figuring out what to do. The stickers are a bit tricky to peel the backing off correctly, so I had to help start the stickers for him.

My little knight.

Activity #2

Construct the Castle: For this activity, your child uses the pieces to build a castle.

The cardboard castle pieces were the main parts to this project, but there were also peg people and stick on clothes for the king and queen.

My son made the king and queen first.

The queen was a bit easier to construct than the king.

The castle took the most time, most of the time was folding the pieces the right way and making sure they went into the right slots.

The king and queen are ready to great their guests.

The completed castle, queen, and king!

Activity #3

Train Like A Knight There was a fun board game for this activity, royal decree and outdoor exercises to do.

The royal training card gave several ways to swing a sword. I would've liked to see a little toy sword included in the box.  I know my little boy would've loved it.

Once the training is complete, you can fill out the royal decree that your child is a knight.

Tablas bar game involves using the dice and tokens to travel from square to square with all your tokens. I didn't take pictures of us playing this, but we had a great time during a rainstorm at camp.

Activity #4

Dragon Egg Quest I think my son had the most fun with this activity. There was a map to play with, but the main part of the activity was making a dragon egg.

This colorful map has different places for your child to travel through to get to the dragon.

A mess mat and apron were included to keep the work area clean. Your child could select to make a green or purple egg, then decorate it with colored gems.

My son chose purple, so we sprinkled the powder in the middle of the dough.

Once kneaded out, my son rolled it out before covering the egg.

Covering the dough was easy, and the dough was easy to work with.

This is the completed dragon egg.

Activity #5

Build A Catapult The last activity was to make a real working catapult.

All the wooden pieces were included in the kit, along with pom poms and a target.

This is the finished catapult!

The goal was to hit the included target, but my son had much more fun attacking the castle.

Final Thought: My son traveled back in time and had so much fun with the kits. The castle and catapult have received the most play. This is a great subscription for younger kids. If you want to try this box, use the coupon CRATEJOY30 to save 30% on your 1st box.
