Birchbox September 2014 Review

Birchbox September 2014 Review

Birchbox is one of the first subscription boxes. It is only $10.00 a month and you can earn some amazing rewards. I have subscribed to boxes for over a year, but just recently, subscribed. Each month you will get a box filled with 4-5 beauty, grooming, and lifestyle samples from both up-and-coming and well known brands. Each delivery will include a mix of categories. Samples are generously sized, with enough product to allow you to figure out if they're right for you. When you sign up, you fill out a beauty questionnaire, so Birchbox can better pick your products. You can find your profile by clicking on “Account Settings” in your account. Click “Edit Profile,” fill out the questionnaire, and then save your preferences.

So what made me decide to subscribe? I decided to subscribe based on the amazing points system. For every 100 points you earn, you get $10.00 to spend in the shop. There are lots of ways to earn points too!

1.  Subscribe

2.  Review Your Products: You get 10 points for every sample review you complete.  Each box contains 4-5 products, so that is around $5.00 in points you can earn monthly!  This makes the box $5.00 a month.  If you use the 50% off code, this makes your first box FREE.

3.  Shop!: For every dollar you spend in the Birchbox Store, you earn 1 point for each dollar spent on full-size products in the Birchbox Shop.

4.  Refer Your Friends: For every friend you refer to Birchbox, you will earn 50 points for every person you refer!

The Details:

Cost: $10.00 a month

Birchbox is celebrating it's 4 year anniversary so subscribers got to choose to add a product to their box, or pick a special box.  I choose to pick an item.

039

The actual Birchbox was very pretty this month.  There were three different boxes this month.

040

First Look

052

The theme this month is  “Fresh Paint” and is all about transitioning into fall.  I can't wait for fall.

054

There were two bonus cards in the box.  The first was a card about chapstick.  It is a “find” this month and you can tweet about it and win prizes.  There was also a card to get a FREE ANNIVERSARY Bonus Box with a $50.00 purchase in the store.

Anniversary Bonus Boxes: filled with four customer-favorite samples from the past four years—yours free with a qualifying purchase of $50+ in full-size products from the Birchbox Shop. Click HERE to add this.

043

Harvey Prince Hello Perfume $12.00:  This smell great.  It is a floral scent with notes of mandarin, grapefruit, forsythia and plumeria.  I got this in another past subscription box, and I am happy to get it again.

044

Chapstick Hydration Lock $2.99 This is a bonus in this month's box.  This is a new item and this renews and moisturizes your lips.  I tried this out and really enjoyed it.

048

Temptu S/B Highlighter in Champagne Shimmer $27.50: This is a liquid shimmer that can be used to give your self a nice glow.  I am really impressed this is full size.

051

Macadamia Healing Oil Spray 2 fl oz $14.50.  This is the item I picked out this month.  This helps stop frizz, adds shines and blocks UV rays. I am very happy to get this.  My hair needs some TLC.

049

Avene Cleanance Soap-Free Gel Cleanser 1.69 fl oz $5.60 This is made with French thermal spring water.  This did a great job cleansing my face and making it feel fresh.

047

Tocca Crema da Mano – Blanco 1 fl oz $5.00:  This lotion smells fantastic.  This has notes of green tea and lemon.  It makes a fantastic combination.

041

Final Thought:  The total value of this box was a huge $67.59!  This was a my favorite Birchbox to date.   I was really impressed with how many full size/travel size there were in this box.  Normally the samples are too small for resale but these products were almost all for sale in their given size.  I love the products and I can't wait to use the hair oil.  If you want to try Birchbox, click HERE and use the code BBPLUS100 to get 100 bonus points to use in the shop ($10.00).

You got a great box! I can’t wait for mine! How big was your perfume sample? It looked like the teeny spray samples that I often get. I love them, but I’ve never seen the value estimated to be more than two or three dollars. I’m hoping that it’s bigger than it looks and I get one! I’ve gotten Hello before and I love it. Thanks.

This was a sample size, but I saw the mini size on the Harvey Prince site here: http://harveyprince.com/hello-mini-edt.html#.U3GrNvldUxF and thought it was the same size. I am not for sure, as no size amount is listed.

I looked at the Birch Box price. It was $55 for 50 ml. I still have some left in my last sample and the amount is not on it so I compared it to some other sample vials that I have (yes I have a lot!). the other vials had 1.5 to 2 ml in them but the hello vial seem to have a little more. I think it has somewhere between 2.5 and 3 ml. Going back to the Birch Box price, 50 ml for $55 equals $1.10 per ml. Let’s be generous and say that the vial contains 3 ml. That would make the value of the vial of Hello $3.30! I just love detective work! You still have a high value box that I am envious of! Maybe mine will be just as good. Thanks for the puzzle! – Donna

I don’t think the Temptu is full sized… it says 3 ml .1 oz. The full size is 1 oz. So its actually 1/10th of the full size, or 10%. The sample value would be 2.70 in that case. Right? That sneaky decimal point!

I’m getting this same box but unfortunately I’m not too excited for it. I really enjoy makeup products which really aren’t in this one. I also have been receiving way too many hand creams, but it does seem like a great value for someone who likes the type of products in it! 🙂
