First Look. The theme for April is “Spring Celebration”. Everything comes packaged in a little envelope.

The box came with a combination scooper and spreader tool

Each month, children get a new patch to collect. This month is a carrot patch.

When you open the envelope, there are cook along questions and instructions on how to use the cooking tool.

There is an overview card that tells what skills, recipes, collectibles, games and activities are in the April 2020 box.

April 2020 Recipes

The back of the card has a master list of all the incredients needed for the recipes. It was a bit tricky getting all the incredients but thankfully I was able to get everything. All the incredients are pretty basic and if you cook often, you probably have most of the incredients on hand.

Spring Party Toasts

When you open the card, it has a list and pictures of all the ingredients needed for the recipe. The other side of the card had educational material. This card focuses on eating greens and cooking green.

The back of the card has instructions on how to use a blender safely.

The card includes colorful pictures and discriptions on how to make each recipe.

Instead of hand chopping all the ingredients, we used our chopper tool. I personally love it and it makes chopping so easy. My 8 year old made this recipe.

We blended all the incredients and smoothed it on little pieces of toasted bread. It only takes 5-7 mins to toast the bread. The tool in the box came in handy for this step.

The finished recipe looks pretty fancy. My 8 year old is very picky, so he didn't want to try it. These tasted great.

Chicken Lettuce Wraps

This recipe teaches children about different kinds of lettuce, spring celebrations.

The recipe is only 12 steps.

The back of the card explains how to prepare “Mise en Place”. Thsi is a French term that means “everything in its place”.

The sauce is a mix of ginger, garlic, lime juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, cornstarch, and vegetable oil.

The recipe said to add the pepper at the end but my 10 year old decided to add it to the meal. We also had some cucumber left from the 1st recipe, so we added that too.

The finished meal was fantastic. Everyone in my family loved the meal, even my picky 8 year old.

Carrot Cake Cookies

This card teaches children about signs of spring and vegetables for desserts.

The back of the card explains how to use a box grater. I don't have a box grater, so my son had to use a handhead one.

We didn't get a chance to make this recipe, because we were missing a key incredient. My husband knows he bought powdered sugar, but it has disappeared. This does look like a great dessert.

More Fun

Table Talk cards are fun conversation starters your family can have at meal time.

The last card gives information on types of poetry and the back has games and activites to write your own poetty.

Once your child is done with everything in the packet, they can login online for bonus recipes, musical playlists, lesson plans, and more activiies. There are also modications for the recipes if you have a special diet or allergies.

Final Thought: My boys love to cook and they loved making these recipes. The chicken lettuce wraps were the big hit of the box. It's a challenge finding healthy meals that everyone will want to eat. My kids enjoyed this subscription because they got to cook meals pretty independently. The only child I had to help was my youngest, but he loved to learn more about the cooking process. Since we are all stuck at home with each other, this would be a great box to try.
