Koala Crate November 2016 Review

Koala Crate is a subscription for 3-4 year olds.  Boxes are $19.95 and filled with a fun magazine and crafts.  Koala Crate has a partnership with Highlights magazine, so there are fun articles and activities included in the box.  My 4-year-old gets Koala Crate and he loves that he can do crafts just like his older brother.

Koala Crate ships in a yellow box.

First Look

Koala Crate works with Highlights Magazine to create Imagine Magazine. The magazine is filled with stories and games, similar to Highlights magazine.  The theme for November is “baking”.

All the instructions for the projects are in a fold out guide.

Each activity has a key to let parents know how messy it is, how much grownup involvement is needed and what skills the child will learn.

Chef Hat (Messiness: Medium Grownup Involvement: Medium) In this activity, your child decorates the bottom of a chef's hat with stencil's and glitter glue.

The supplies included a hat, glitter glue and sticky stencils.

The stencils stick on the hat, which makes applying the glue easier.

Pictures were added all around the hat.  They are a bit harder to see, but they turned out well.

Cake Box (Messiness: Low Grownup Involvement: Medium) There was a little cake box, stickers that smelled good and the glitter glue.  Your little crafter uses the materials to decorate the box like a cake.

First, sprinkles were added.

Then glitter glue was added as frosting.

My son stuck it in his play oven to “bake”, aka dry.

This is the finished cake!  Koala Crate recommended around 4 hours to dry, but with all this glitter glue, it took much longer.

Measuring Fun (Messiness: High, Grownup Involvement: High) The last project involved several different activities.  This project has little baking cards that focus on measuring and different experiments.

There were measuring cups, liquid watercolors, and recipe cards.

There were three double-sided cards with various activities to do.

Final Thought: This was a really fun box and we didn't even get to finish everything yet.  My son loved making the cake.  He plays with his kitchen every day, so this cake was a great fit.  If you want to subscribe to Koala Crate, or any of the Kiwi Crate subscriptions, use this link and use the code BOXMOM40 to save 40% on your 1st box ,
