First Look

Mali This booklet was packed with information on Mali, including background, 14th century story, crafts and more.

Here is what was in the book:

A look at the inside of the book.

Inside the box there was a package of gold chocolate nuggets to snack on, a magnetic puzzle of mud architecture, a mud cloth craft, the information book, a gold nuggets sticker, and a comic to color.

We enjoyed snacking on these yummy golden chocolate nuggets as we read about Mali.

The comic was easy to read and fun to color for my 7 year old daughter.

The magnetic puzzle of mud architecture went along with the last section of the book and was fun to work on together.

The mud cloth craft was by far the most exciting thing for my daughter.  After reading the section on mud cloth in the book we sat down and followed the clearly laid out directions to paint our own mud cloth placemat.  All items were includes except the half cup of dirt we got from the yard and water to mix with it.  They even included gloves because the iron oxide will stain, even your hands.

We threw on an old t-shirt to paint in and set to work creating our own mud cloth art after reading the section on mud cloth in the book.

Final Thought: History Unboxed is another educational and fun box. We had fun learning about Mali and the craft, the puzzle, and the chocolate snack made it fun and memorable.  This is a great subscription for homeschoolers or for kids (and parents) who love history.  If you want to subscribe, use the code subboxmom to get 5% off your first subscription.
