First Look
The craft this month is DIY Floating Candles.
There a was a full page of instructions on how to make the floating candles. You needed to provide a pyrex bowl/mason jar, hot pad, cooking spray, stir stick, and container to hold the candles.
The Hippie Hobby box included wax, wicks, toothpicks, oil, and a mold.
After melting the wax and adding the citronella oil, you pour into the molds.
After you let the wax sit out for 15 mins, you stick tooth picks in each mold. After everything has set, you remove the toothpicks and thread the wick through.
So I followed the instructions, but when I was finished, all the candles broke as I was removing the toothpicks. I remelted the wax and this time, tried putting the wicks in the liquid wax. I knew the design would still be on the bottom, but I didn't think the toothpick option would work.
After letting the wax dry, the candles ended up breaking as I tried to remove them.
I was able to save one of the flowers and it did float as promised. I am not sure if I didn't something wrong or what happened to my flowers. I did think it was a fun craft, despite the candles not turning out.
As a bonus craft, there were DIY Dinnerware packets to make.
There was bags, napkins, straws, salt/pepper, labels and a pencil. The only thing you need to add is silverware.
The finished packets turned out super cute. My 7 year old even joined in the fun to make these. You just add your silverware and the packet is complete. You can use these on a picnic, or use them in your child's lunchbox. Instead of putting names on the packets, you can write a note to your child.
Final Thought: While my candles didn't turn out right, it was fun to do. I fully admit that I may have messed up the candles. If I get more wax I will try it again. The bonus activity was super easy to do and turned out great. I do like this subscription and I have made some cute projects with this subscription.
