Koala Crate May 2016 Review
Koala Crate is a subscription for 3-4 year olds. Boxes are $19.95 and filled with a fun magazine and crafts. Koala Crate has a partnership with Highlights magazine, so there are fun articles and activities included in the box. My 3-year-old gets Koala Crate and he loves that he can do crafts just like his older brother. There are not many subscriptions that are appropriate for 3 year old

First Look
Koala Crate partners with Highlights Magazine to create Imagine Magazine. The magazine is filled with stories and games, similar to Highlights magazine. The theme for May is “Birds”.
There was some information in Imagine magazine about birds. Imagine magazine combines fun activities, cartoons and educational material, all in a little magazine.
There was DIY to make a hatching egg, using materials at home. There was also a page with book suggestions for your child to read about birds.
All the instructions for the projects are in a fold out guide.
Each activity has a key to let parents know how messy it is, how much grownup involvement is needed and what skills the child will learn.
Bird Wings (Messiness: Low Grownup Involvement: Medium) There was a fabric set of wings that your child can decorate with rainbow feathers.
This project was really simple, just button the feathers to the cape.
This activity was great to work fine motor skills. Some feathers were easier than others to button, but T was so proud to finish it himself.
This is the finished cape. You can't see it, but there are loops on the bottom side to go around the child's shoulders and wrists, so they can “fly”.
Bird Mask To go with the wings, a bird mask kit was included in the box.
There was additional instructions to use clue dots to help attach some felt pieces, which are used for the beaks.
There were several feathers for the mask and the 3rd project in the box. After the mask is complete, your child can choose three different types of beaks for the mask. Each beak has velcro, so they are easily switched out.
The feathers attached to a sticker, then you place a felt piece over them, so they stay in place.

Here is the finished mask and cape, it's so adorable. The only complaint I have, is the elastic for the mask was too short. My son has a pretty big head, so the mask was a bit tight.

Clay Bird Sculpture (Messiness: Medium Grownup Involvement: Medium) The last project was to make a little bird out of clay. My son loves playdoh, so he was all over this!
This project used feathers, air dry clay, and face parts.
T was so good at this project, I really didn't have to do much.

Final Thought: This was a wonderful box. I really wasn't sure about the bird theme, but it turned out so well. My loves the cape and has been flying around the house. The bird is super cute and I placed it on a shelf for display.
