First Look

The theme of the box was “Rockets”.  My boys recently went to the Air and Space museum and since then, they love space.

inside the Rockets brochure, was information about the first rocket, the first astronaut in space, Newton's third law of motion and more.  This was a nice introduction about space.

The back had some interesting facts about rockets and space.

Surprise Ride Guide: The guide gave a list of all the projects and items in the box.

DK Readers L3: Rocket Science My oldest son has always enjoyed more Science and Factual books over cartoon ones.  L has spend several days looking through the facts and information in this book.

This is a look inside the book.

The first activity is to paint and assemble a rocket picture frame.

Everything was included to complete the project, even a disposable apron.

This is the completed frame, obviously, we haven't added the picture yet.

The next project was our favorite one.  Your child can assemble and launch their very own rocket using water, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid.

There were diagrams on the information card to assemble the rocket.

This is the completed rocket.  You add the final ingredients to the canister at the bottom of the rocket, then add the cap.

Foam Rocket and Launcher Both of my boys have rockets like these.  You put the rocket on the launcher, then squeeze. This turned into a war between my kids, with them launching rockets at each other.

Balancing Space Shuttle This was the first things my son pulled out of the box.  The shuttle balances on the stand, and it is currently on the table beside my son's bed.

The Snack Each box comes with a snack and is made to enjoy while you are using the box, but my son decided to bring it to school the bar is from That's It and contains cherries and apples.  It was a big hit and I am going to have to buy more.  We saved the cool looking plate for a future snack.

Final Thought: We have reviewed a couple of Surprise Ride boxes. and each one has been fun.  I love reading to my boys, so I like that each box comes with a book.  The snack is also nice, because my boys are always hungry in the afternoons.  I like that Surprise Ride understands that children learn in many different ways, and so they send different times of learning activities: books, diagrams, crafts and experiments.  The launching rocket was the hit with this box, but my boys loved everything.  You can use this link with the code the coupon LOVE10 to save $10.00 on your 1st box.  Also, Surprise Ride is giving one subscriber a free box, just enter the giveaway below.
