BeadCrate March 2016 Review

BeadCrate is a bead subscription box that sends a variety of different beads each month.  There are three different subscription plans “The Hobbyist” is $7.99/month, “The Enthusiast” is $15.99/month and “The Collector” is $35.00/month.  If you don't want to subscribe right away, you can try a one time only box.  Each box will contain an assortment of Toho seed beads, accent beads, funky beads, plus various other cool beads they find.  I received The Enthusiast box for review.

The Details:

Cost: “The Hobbyist” – $7.99/month, “The Enthusiast” – $15.99/month & “The Collector” – $35.00/month.   There are discounts for 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions.

What's in the box?  Each box will contain an assortment of Toho seed beads, accent beads, funky beads, plus various other cool beads they find.

Everything shipped in a little box.

First Look.  The theme for March is “Mermaid”.  I love the little seahorse on the inside lid.

There was an information sheet with everything int he box and a welcome letter.

All the beads were packed in a little satin bag.

Every bag was labeled with a letter, so it was easy to identify what each bead was.

11/0 Toho Transparent-Forest Crystal (Japanese Glass) This tube measures 5.5″ in length and is filled with 18 grams of beads.  These beads are exclusive to The Enthusiast box.

This is a closeup view of the individual beads.  These beads are very tiny and are great for spacing out more colorful beads.

3mm Aqua Czech Glass Druks These pretty aqua beads remind me of the Caribbean and there are 300 beads separated into 100 beads/bag.  The amount of these beads is just for Enthusiast boxes.

7x5mm Center Drilled Fresh Water Cultured Pearls  I was surprised to see real fresh water pearls in a subscription box, actually 10 of them.  These would make beautiful earrings.

3mm Lt. Teal Fire Polishe Faceted Rounds (Czech Glass) These actually appear slightly more blue in person (50 ct).

8x3mm Lt Teal Dime Beads (Czech Glass) These 25 round beads remind me of fish scales, or mermaid scales.

5mm Luster Iris Atlantic Blue Melons (Czech Glass) Of all the beads in the box, these beads catch the light the most.  I can see why they are called blue melons, because they really look like a tiny melon (50 ct)

6x6mm Emerald Biocone (Czech Glass) These look like tiny little jewels and the emerald color is beautiful (50 ct).

9x6mm Vertical hole Teal AB Tear Drops (Czech Glass) These remind me of little fish and I love they are so transparent (25 ct).

6mm Matte Teal AB Lentils (Czech Glass) These beads are a beautiful teal, and are little flat beads.  These beads are also exclusive to The Enthusiast box.

Final Thought: According to BeadCrate, this box had a total value of $28.41.  I didn't have any way to get the retail value of each of the beads, but $28.41 seems more than reasonable for the value.  I was really impressed to see fresh water pearls, along with many other bags of beads.  I love how all the beads coordinated with each other and I could really see the mermaid theme.  If you love jewelry making and crafting with beads, check out BeadCrate.

April 2016 Theme Hint: For April, the hint for the theme is “Bring your UMBRELLA!”.
