Koala Crate December 2015 Review
Koala Crate is a subscription for 3-4 year olds. Boxes are $19.95 and filled with a fun magazine and crafts. Koala Crate has a partnership with Highlights magazine, so there are fun articles and activities included in the box. My 3-year-old gets Koala Crate and he loves that he can do crafts just like his older brother. There are not many subscriptions that are appropriate for 3 year olds.

First Look. The theme for December is “Arctic”.
Koala Crate comes with Imagine magazine, which is filled with stories and games.
There was a page about animals who live in the Arctic, and a little story featuring Kellan the Koala.
If you are familiar with Highlights magazine, you will recognize the “find 5 differences” activity. The magazine also had a recipe for salt dough, so you can make your own salt dough ornaments. I did this as a kid and really wanted to do it this year, but didn't get around to it.
For the adult helper, there is an instruction book for all the activities.
Each activity has a key to let parents know how messy it is, how much grownup involvement is needed and what skills the child will learn.
Polar Bear Dress Up (Messiness: Low, Grownup Involvement: Medium) My oldest did this in a Kiwi Crate a long time ago, but he had so much fun, I was glad T got to do it. Your child makes felt paws and then uses them to catch a velco ball (seen in the next activity).
There was two mittens and the paws and claws go on opposite sides. The headband is for the little bear ears.

Snowball Toss (Messiness: Low, Grownup Involvement: Medium) Your child makes two balls with this activity: one fluffy and one velcro.

The velcro ball was a ping pong ball covered in velcro. The fluffy ball was a bath poof wrapped in yarn. I didn't get a picture of the fluffy ball while it was being made, as I had to help T.

Sparkle Snowflake Stamp (Messiness: High, Grownup Involvement: High) The last activity involved making a stamp and decorating wrapping paper.
For this project, your child stitches the yard through the snowflake, then stuck on the back to make a stamp.
The paper was huge, around the size of a poster. The stamp was fun but it was a bit tricky to get the ink completely covered for a perfect snowflake. Truthfully, having a perfect snowflake only bothered me, T couldn't care less.
Here is a glimpse at the finished paper. It was much too large to include a full picture.
Final Thought: This was a really fun month. T really enjoyed pretending he was a polar bear and making wrapping paper. I love that Koala Crate includes projects that only need a little help from me.
