Kiwi Crate August 2015 Review
Kiwi Crate is a fun activity and craft subscription box for kids 4-8. Crates are $19.95month and filled with Explore magazine, along with two featured crafts. You can add-on a sibling pack or upgrade and get a featured book each month with your box. Kiwi Crate is our family's first subscription box and it's one of my favorite subscription boxes for kids.

What's in the box? Every month you'll receive all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as music, gardening, dinosaurs or colors. Projects may include arts and crafts, science activities, imaginative play and more. We've hand selected and kid tested projects that are open-ended and encourage curiosity, exploration and creativity!
What ages is Kiwi Crate for? Ages 3-8 but older children can enjoy it too.
Can I skip? Yes – if you do not want to receive a crate for a period of time, you can pause your subscription for 1, 2 or 3 months. To pause, log into My Account page, click “Manage Subscription” next to the subscription that you'd like to pause and then click Pause. You will not be charged while your subscription is paused. Your subscription will automatically resume after the pause period is complete. Pause by 7:00 PM EST on the 4th of the month to avoid being billed for the next crate.

First Look: The two main crafts this month is “My Fish Lantern” and “My Paddle Boats“.
Kiwi Crate offered a free Eraser Set and a discount on their subscription recently. These are the cute little erasers.
The back of the information card features Steve the Kiwi Bird and a friend. There is also a sticker to place on your child's poster (it comes in the first box)
The theme for August is “A Day at the Lake”. Explore Magazine is filled with fun games and activities for your child to do.
The first activity in the box was “My Fish Lantern”. This rated High on the messiness scale and Medium on the parental involvement. Kids will learn fine motor skills, creating and exploring.
Kiwi Crate includes all the materials you need for each craft.
The directions are full color and easy to follow, even for kids who can't read.
The lantern project looked really fun to make.
I had to help with a few step, but L did most of it himself. This project took a pretty long time. Once all the scales were glued on, it had to dry overnight, before adding the fins.
This is the finished fish. There is a light that hangs down inside the fish. This is going to hang in L's room as a nightlight.
The second featured project was “My Paddle Boats“. This project was medium on the messiness scale and medium on grownup involvement. Your child will work on creating, discovering, and fine motor skills.
For this project your child will need a plastic container, water and a mess mat. The plastic container is for your boats to float in, so you can easily use a bathtub.
The directions were really easy to follow and L completed the whole project by himself.
The first step was to make the sails.
The rubber band helps propel the boat, by twisting around the wheel.

Final Thought: This was a really fun box and I liked that the lantern wasn't easily completed. It was fun for L to work hard on and finally complete. The boats really float and were a great bath toy.
