Smart Art is an art subscription box that sends high quality art supplies, along with an new art technique every month for $49.95.  Each month, you will be sent information about a specific time period, and a project based on that time period.  I am not an artist myself, but I do like to be creative.  I recently went to one of those teacher lead painting classes, and it was so much fun.

First Look

Smart Art included an information guide.  This month they will discuss Neo-Impressionism and Georges-Pierre Seurat.  The featured medium is medium brush markers.

Inside the information guide, there is a list of everything in the box.  On other pages of the brochure, there is more information about Neo-Impressionism.

The technique in this month's box is Pointillism.  This is a process about making a picture with dots and letting your eyes blend the technique.

Fabriano Studio Watercolor Pad  $11.95 There are 20 sheets in this pad and they are very thick.  There are made to hold you paint and ink, so they don't bleed through.

Prismacolor Magic Rub .80 cents This eraser cleanly erases pencil marks without smearing.

General's Pure Woodless Graphite $1.51  This is pencil with just graphite.  It is considerably heaver than other pencils, but it still writes nicely.

Dahl Chubby Pencil Sharpener $2.75  This is a very lightweight pencil sharpener.  This has a large collecting container, so you don't have to empty it so often.  The container also screws together, so their is no accidental spillage.

MEPXY Brush Markers $2.95/each $17.70  Smart Art included 6 different brush markers in the box.  There is a brush tip on one end and a chisel tip on the other.  The are alcohol based and dry quickly.

The colors included in the box were: Brick Beige, Fresh Vermilion, Medium Green, Cool Grey, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine.

This is a look at how each marker writes and the two tips of the marker.

Final Thought: This box had a total value of $34.71.  While I really enjoyed all the items in the box, I was disappointed in the value.  Granted, shipping was not taken into account, when figuring the retail value, but I think one more item, would have added to this box.  I do think learning about Neo-Impressionism and Pointillism.  There are not many art themed subscription boxes, so this box fits a need.  Remember you can save 20% on your box when you use the code 20OFFLIFE or 20OFFGIFT.  You can also check them out on Facebook HERE.
