January 2015 My Pretend Place Dress Up Box Review + Coupon

My Pretend Place is a brand new subscription box for children 3-8.  My Pretend Place‘s mission is to get children crafting, dressing up, pretending and using their imaginations!  There are two boxes, a dress up box and a craft box.  The dress up box is $50.00 every 3 month (quarterly) and comes in boy, girl or gender neutral.  This box is for children 3-6.  Each box will contain dress-up costumes, activities or crafts, and other pretend play inspiration.  In months when you are not receiving a box, you will be emailed activity, craft and recipe ideas, based on your last box.  Since I have an almost 3-year-old and a 5-year-old, I was super excited when My Pretend Place sent me the dress up box to review.

The craft subscription box is $15.00/month and comes in boy, girl and gender neutral.  Every month, your child will receive two crafts (same craft), so this is great for siblings.  The craft subscription is for children 3-8.

The Details:

I was sent the Dress Up Box for review.  This is the Boy Box.

My Pretend Place shipped very quickly.  It was shipped by UPS and it arrived within a couple of days.

First Look

Inside the envelope was a little information card, a magnet with this month's theme (Space), and a handle.  The handle is to turn your box into a little suitcase.  My Pretend Place has a neat page with all kinds of ideas on how to use your box.  Just click here to see the box ideas.  My kids loves boxes, so including a handle is a genius move by My Pretend Place.

The theme for this month is Space

Melissa and Doug Astronaut Costume $29.99  We already have this costume, but we only have one.  Since I have two boys, I was more than happy to get a second one.  My little T wants to do everything big brother does.  This costume comes with the full astronaut suit, helmet, patch, name badge, and gloves.  This costume is very well made.  We have a few Melissa and Doug costumes and they last through rough play.  This is nothing like the generic Halloween costumes in stores.

We used a building set L got for Christmas to build a rocket.  My kids had a blast (no pun intended) pretending to go into space.

Astronaut Handbook by Meghan McCarthy $16.99:   This book tells kids all about how to become an astronaut.  There is a “vomit comet”, yes it's gross, but my boys thought it was the funnest thing ever.  The book tells kids about going to the bathroom in space (another favorite part), space food and weightlessness.

A Peek Inside:  This is a look inside the book.  The illustrations are so cute and I love how Meghan explains astronauts in a kid friendly way.

The back cover has a picture of an astronaut and you can past a picture of your child inside!

Melissa & Doug Peel & Press Sticker by Number – Space Mission $12.99 I was happy to see another Melissa and Doug product.  I love the brand and they stand behind all their products.  Our house is filled with Melissa and Doug but we don't have this.  This is a wooden picture and you apply the stickers to the board using the guide.

L was most excited to see this in the box.  He love stickers and is really getting interested in space.

L put on his astronaut costume and went to work on the picture.  I had to help him match some numbers, but it was great practice for him.

Here is the finished project.  L applied the stickers himself, I only helped show him where they go.

Astronaut Neapolitan Ice Cream $4.95 and Astronaut Ice Cream – Round Ice Cream Sandwich $3.95  In the book, the boys learned all about space food.  T loves food and my little guy couldn't wait to open the package and eat whatever was inside.

He was excited!

T was a bit puzzled at first.  It looked like an ice cream sandwich, but it wasn't cold.

It didn't take long and T was gobbling it up.

This is L's Neapolitan ice cream.  It became a bit broken but L loved it.

Final Thought: This box had a total value of $68.87.  I was really impressed with the dress up box from My Pretend Place.  My Pretend Place really went all out to present a well curated box.  Both of my boys (almost 3 and 5) had a blast with this box.  They loved learning about astronauts and the costume was so much fun.  T's favorite part was the ice cream sandwich, because he is a total foodie.  L loved the book and the sticker board.  All in all, My Pretend Place is an awesome box for kids 3-6.  At $50.00 quarterly, that works out to $16.66 per month.  Even better, you can save 30% on your first box when you use the coupon pretend.  They also have a return policy!

If you subscribe now, Boys will get the Astronaut/Space box, Girls will get Princess and Gender Neutral will get Safari.

Don't forget this box comes in girl themes too, and if your girl is more into astronauts or fire fighting, you can select boy for her and vice versa.

Below is an example of a “girl” box.
