My son's December 2014 Kiwi Crate showed up pretty early this month and my son was excited to see it. Kiwi Crate is $19.95 a month, and each month you get at least two big crafts along with Explore Magazine. Explore Magazine is a magazine that is included in every box. You can also add supplies for a sibling for only $9.95. The Explore Magazine is filled with cartoons, activities, and bonus crafts. My son L loves Kiwi Crate. He is always so excited to get this box and see what the theme is for the month.

What's in the box? Every month you'll receive all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as music, gardening, dinosaurs or colors. Projects may include arts and crafts, science activities, imaginative play and more. We've hand selected and kid tested projects that are open ended and encourage curiosity, exploration and creativity!
What ages is Kiwi Crate for? Ages 3-8 but older children can enjoy it too.
When am I billed? You will be billed for your first crate immediately. After that, you will be billed up to 10 days before your ship date. This would be on or around the 5th of each month.
When does the box ship? The first crate will be shipped within 2 business days and subsequent crates will ship the next month around the middle of the month in the U.S. Crates to Canada will be shipped on or around the 15th of each month
Can I skip? Yes – if you do not want to receive a crate for a period of time, you can pause your subscription for 1, 2 or 3 months. To pause, log into My Account page, click “Manage Subscription” next to the subscription that you'd like to pause and then click Pause. You will not be charged while your subscription is paused. Your subscription will automatically resume after the pause period is complete. Pause by 7:00 PM EST on the 4th of the month to avoid being billed for the next crate.

Kiwi Crate ships in a cute green crate.
The theme for December is “Frozen Fun”. The two main crafts this month are: “My Winter Luminaries” and “My Snowman Toss”.
The back of the title card has Steve the Kiwi Bird and friend. Your child can cut them out and play with them. When you first sign up for Kiwi Crate, your child is given a poster to put each monthly sticker on. When your poster is filled up, you can request a new poster.
Explore Magazine is a cute little book filled with comics, games, activities and other projects to try.
Kiwi Crate included a project to make paints out of ice cubes. I have done this before with L, and it was super fun. We loved doing it outside in the summer.
There were also instructions to make ice color tunnels and a melting race. Ice Cube tunnels is a fun project using salt and food coloring. Melting Race explores how fast ice melts.
The last activity in Explore Magazine was My Icy Igloo Game. Your child punches out the arches and then you and your child can race ice cubes.
The first project was “My Snowman Toss”. This rated low on the messiness scale and low on the parental involvement.
Inside the instruction card is a list of all the items in the box. I like that Kiwi Crate includes pictures of everything, so even children who can't read can gather the items they need.
Kiwi Crate includes step by step instructions for each project. L can follow the pictures and doesn't need much help from me.

Building the boxes
Some stickers were included to make the snowman, but your child had to draw the shirts and pants. I drew the pants and shirt and L colored them.
Finished Snowman: When your child is ready to play, your child throws the ball at the snowman and tries to knock down all the blocks.
The second project is “My Winter Luminaries” This rated high on the messiness scale and medium on the parental involvement.
Once again, Kiwi Crate lists everything you need. They also show you a picture of the completed project.

Final Thought: This was a really fun Kiwi Crate as usual. L loves the luminaries and he has them in his room for a night light. The snowman toss was harder for L (and me) but the finished result was a fun game. Kiwi Crate is a really fun subscription.
