Made in the Mitten July 2014 Review

Made in the Mitten July 2014 Review

Made in the Mitten is a destination box devoted to all thing Michigan.  Made in the Mitten sent me this box to review.  Every month you get 4-5 items handmade by, or representing, artisans throughout the state of Michigan. You'll find jewelry, décor items, body products, food, maybe a promo from one of Michigan's many breweries. Made in the Mitten starts shipping their first boxes this month!  I was excited to check this box out.  I really love those Pure Michigan commercials and I am really interested in what Michigan has to offer.

The Details:

Cost: $30.00/month, $80.00/3 months, $150.00/6 months

What's in the box? Every month you get 4-5 items handmade by, or representing, artisans throughout the state of Michigan.

Made in the Mitten shipped by USPS and came in a padded USPS envelope.

The box was in a plan white box.  I would love to see a Made in the Mitten logo on it.

First Look:  There was an information card on top and I could instantly smell the smell of spearmint.

Amanda Marie Infinity Nautical Knot Rope Bracelet $5.00  I love the infinity symbol and I have seen it much more, since that show Revenge became popular.  I like this bracelet, but it is a bit bright.  I would love this, if it was black and white.

Detroit Spots Consumer Magazine $5.99  This is a Detroit sports magazine.  They cover stories, faqs and photos all about Detroit sports.  I am not a big sports fan, so I will gift this or trade it for something I like better.  I do think this fits nicely in the box.

2 Chix and a Mix Magic Mix $6.99 This is a dry cookie mix made with rice flour, organic oat flour and free of refined sugars.  There is a recipe on the back to add mashed banana, melted butter, maple syrup and vanilla to make cookies.  These sound tasty and I look forward to trying them.

J and L Creations Botanical Garden Soap $5.95 Botanical Garden is a unique blend of spearmint essential oil, lavender essential oil, and rosemary essential oil.  This smells like spearmint, with notes of lavender and rosemary mixed it.  My husband actually liked this soap and has claimed it.

Birch Box Birch Ornament  $10.00 This is a cute ornament, that looks like it is made from the wood of a birch tree.  I don't know much more about it.  This is the second Christmas item I have received lately.  I do think this would be better in a December box, but it doesn't scream Christmas.  You could decorate with it, if it fit with your style.

Paper and Honey 5X7 Michigan Print:  $7.00:  This is  a nice piece, especially for someone in Michigan.  It is a  nice 5 x 7 print.   I personally don't love it, but I don't live in Michigan.  If I lived in Michigan, or had family there, I could see myself displaying it in my home.  Maybe a future vacation there will give this more meaning for me personally.

Bell's Inspired Brewing Sticker $1.00: This is a sticker of a brewing company in Michigan.  C and I have never had their beer, so I won't be using this sticker.

Final Thought: This box had a total value of $41.93.  This is a nice value, especially being the first box.  I enjoyed the cookie mix and the soap the most.  The bracelet is a bit bright for me and sports isn't my thing.  I wasn't to found of the Michigan print or the sticker.  I think those are more useful and relevant to someone in Michigan.  The one thing I would love to see improved, is the information card.  I would love to see a bigger description of each product and why it was chosen for the box.  I do think this is an interesting box and I look forward to seeing what they produce next month.
