Kiwi Crate January Mad Science and $10.00 Discount

Kiwi Crate Mad Science

Kiwi Crate Mad Science

When I saw there was a science theme to this month's Kiwi Crate, I know L would be really excited.  L loves science and there are not enough science kits for 4 year olds.  As soon as L saw the green box, he was really wanting to complete the crafts.   Kiwi Crate is $19.95 a month and each month your child (ages 3-7) gets at least two big projects, along with Explore magazine.  Explore magazine is filled with activities and extra projects.  Kiwi Crate has amazing customer service and you have full control of your own account.  You can cancel or skip any month, right from your online account.  If you are new to Kiwi Crate, you can click HERE and save $10.00 on your first box.  That makes your first box $9.95!  Your first box will come with scissors and a poster.  The poster holds all the stickers you get each month (read on to learn more)

The top card tells you the main projects.  This month, it is my weeble woobles, and my science lab

Kiwi and Friend

The back of the information card has character to color and cut out.  Your child can use them to play with a scene drawn on the inside of the box.  There is also a sticker to put on your poster.  If your poster get filled up, email Kiwi Crate, and they will send you a new one.

Corn Starch Activity

Explore Magazine is a fun addition to Kiwi Crate.  It is filled with fun activities, cartoons and projects.  This activity is fun with corn starch and water.   Kiwi Crate had questions for the child to answer.  L really liked this. I didn't think he would actually touch it, but he did!  L is not normally someone to get his hands dirty.  I was happy Kiwi Crate included corn starch for this bonus activity.

Lava Lamp

This is a fun bonus activity, but we need some Alka Seltzer.

Ice Cream Recipe

I have never made ice cream before, but this looks really fun!

My Weeble Wobblers

The first activity included everything to make two weeble wobblers.  This was a very easy activity that required little to no assistance from me.  Clay was put in the bottom of one wobbler and a ball in the other.  The child was asked how this made each wobbler stand/act different.  Kiwi Crate also included 3 markers, 2 regular and then a special white marker that changes the marker color.  L thought this was really fun!

Every instruction book includes information about how messy it is, how much parent involvement and what the child will learn.  This was low messiness and low parental involvement.

My Weeble Wobbler Directions

I love that Kiwi Crate's directions are super easy to follow.  There are pictures so even children who can' t read, can follow the instructions and gather the materials.

L mashing the clay up!

The color change markers were really fun.  L colored much longer than I thought he would, because he was having so much fun.

2 Finished Weeble Wobblers

My Science Lab

L was really excited to see what “potions” he was going to make.  Kiwi Crate included a base, test tubes, food coloring, oil and instructions.

My Science Lab Directions

This was high on the messiness scale and medium on the parental involvement

My Science Lab

This activity discussed oil and water, and what happens when you put food coloring on oil.  This was really fun for L and myself.

L and I loved watching the colors!

Final thought:  This was a fantastic month!  L loved the projects this month and wants to continue to play with the science lab.  We still have the ice cream and lava lamp activity to complete.  There were 2 complete crafts and 3 bonus activities this month.  If I could only get one subscription box, this is the one I would keep.  If you want to try Kiwi Crate, click HERE to save $10.00.  Remember, you can cancel or skip right from your account.
