Vermont Serendipity March 2015 Review

Vermont Serendipity March 2015 Review

Vermont Serendipity is a new subscription box, that finds the best goods from local farmers, producers and artisans, and sends them to your door.  Vermont Serendipity curates the boxes based on the seasons, and they always throw something fun and whimsical in their boxes.  Boxes are $29.00/month plus $5.00 shipping.

I had the opportunity to visit Vermont a few  years ago, and I loved visiting so many beautiful small towns.  I fell in love with the beauty, food and the great skiing, while in Vermont.  When Vermont Serendipity offered me a box for review, I happily said yes.

The Details:

Cost: $29.00/month, $87.00/3 months, $174.00/ 6 months

What's in the box? “The boxes are themed and seasonal. Each box will have a variety of Vermont made specialty food, farm products, crafts and other pieces that complement the themes we dream up each month.”

Shipping: $5.00/month

Vermont Serendipity shipped by USPS and everything came in a little square box.  Vermont Serendipity strives to send boxes that are easily reused or recycled.

First Look: The wood excelsior can be recycled for crafts, compost etc.  I really appreciate it, when boxes thing about what will happen to their boxes, after they are received.

There was a letter with several recipes, all involving items in the box.

These were the recipes included:

  • Mexican Drinking Chocolate
  • Grammy's Hot Cocoa
  • Flying Farmer Buttermilk Pancakes

The theme for March was “Sugarmakers Widow”.  The theme got its name from all the wives, husbands and loved ones of Vermont sugarmakers, who are basically widows this time of year, because their loved ones are out collecting sap.

The back of the card has a list of everything in the box, where it comes from and the retail value.  There is also a description of the product.

057

DownStreet Eats, Mexican Drinking Chocolate & Grammy's Hot Cocoa Mix, Cabot $4.50 each ($9.00 total)  The Mexican Drinking chocolate is made with a spicy kick.  Grammy's Hot Cocoa Mix is a very tasty, sweet hot chocolate.  It has a light flavor and we loved it.

059

Downstreet Eats, The Flying Farmer Pancake Mix, Cabot: $5.50 This pancake mix comes from Downsteet Eats, a fantastic restaurant in Cabot, Vermont. Downstreet Eats is famous for their pancakes.  This mix makes a dozen, 4 inch pancakes.

060

Under Orion Farm, Pint of Maple Syrup, Cabot: $10.00 I have had pure maple syrup from Vermont, and there is nothing like it.  Under Orion Farm uses traditional methods to get their sap and the result is great tasting syrup.

061

Belle Savon Vermont, Natural Soy Candle, Danville $3.75 As soon as I opened the box, I could smell maple syrup.  This candle is made from soy wax and it smells just like maple syrup.   I love the cute little bucket!

066

Agape Hill Farm, Wool Felted Bouncing Balls, Hardwick $5.00  This is the fun item in the box.  This bouncy ball is covered in felt, all done by hand.  This was really fun to play with, and my boys wants to snatch it for themselves.

064

Vintage Sap Spout: This is the coolest thing in the box.  This is a vintage sap spout and can be used as a hanger on the wall.  I like really cool antiques and this is going to go in my kitchen.

054

Final Thought: This box had a total value of $33.25, which equals about the cost of the box.  I didn't get a price for the antique sap spout, but that has value too.  Vermont Serendipity combined a great selection of goods from Vermont.  The maple syrup was fantastic and I liked they pared it with pancake mix and some tasty hot chocolate.  I felt I received a great taste of Vermont.  If you want to check out this box, just use this link.
